White Squirrel

The squirrel is all white — white as snow.

“I think it’s pretty unusual to see a squirrel all white like that,” said Joe Giacone of Keeler Drive last week. “I’ve never seen one before.”

Mr. Giacone, who works in research and development for Kraft Foods, has lived in town since 1989. For fun he bangs drums in the Catoonah Street Jazz and Blues Society, but he’s also an interested, though casual nature watcher.

“I live in a fairly typical Ridgefield house so I have a lot of woods and trees in my back yard,” he said.

“We do get a pretty wide variety of wildlife up here. We get a ton deer. We get flocks of wild turkeys...

“I enjoy the bird feeder at this time of year, because we get a really wide variety of birds,” he said.

“...The squirrels are mostly a nuisance, but when I started seeing this guy I thought it was so unusual.”

Unusual but not unique, it turns out.
